The IMF (International Monetary Fund) fundamental
mission is to help ensure stability in the international system. It does so in
three ways: keeping track of the global economy and the economies of member
countries; lending to countries with balance of payments difficulties; and
giving practical help to members.
On their way to do so, they are forced to elaborate a lot of statistic tables and collect thousands of different data that are available for free in their website cited at the begining of the post just by clicking on the statistics-data button on their homepage. They also have the information sorted by countries and the researchers made by their own researches as well as some conferences, definatelly a website to look at if you are searching for macroeconomic data.

Metacrawler
http://www.metacrawler.com/
metacrawler is a metasearch engine that receives results from the most used searchers like Google, Yahoo!, Bing (formerly Live Search), Ask.com, About.com,MIVA, LookSmart it doesn't only search for websites but for images, videos, and white and yellow pages, and that is what makes metacrawler better for looking for specific and uncommon information than any of the searchers mentioned before as long as metacrawler doesn't limit the results to one of them, it builds a new list based on our needs and according to the popularity of the site proposed and its accuracy to the searched words.
Anyway, we highly recommend to use boolean operators to enhance the accuracy of the search.
just a reminder of them.

BUBL Archive
http://bubl.ac.uk/
BUBL is an information resource that provides us with information of all kinds, unfortunately, it hasn't been updated since 2011 but if we are looking for anything dating before 2011 it is still a very reliable resource to find essential resources and infromation as its objective isn't to have a huge directory but to have the most important information according to some librarians, reason why it is organized according to the DDC (Dewy Decimal Classification).
Therefore, this is a good point to begin the planning of your work project as it is not hard to check (if your are looking for finance you just have to go to the extension number 300) and leads you straight to the essential sources.

As they define themselves in google, Global Insight is the leading provider of global economic and financial intelligence, on the positive side we have to say that it provides a lot of economic information from countries (bare in mind that several countries have never got to record some kind of data or have begun to do so few years ago), that can be sorted in infinite ways because the data requested appear in a table under all the criteriums to find that information including and excluding columns such as title, region, the date when information started to be recorded so you can have in the screen strictly what you need, avoiding useless information that could lead to confusion. Moreover, there is still to say that you can also get graphs about the data selected and what is even more important, you can export the table directly to Excel. On the other side, we have to say that sometimes, data that are normally available simply dissapear as I experienced while I was practicing with this program in class, another problem that it has is that it logs out your session without any advise nor order to do so, that's why I recommend you to save your progress the more times you can the better, and finally often it just gets frozen in the opening screen and it does not run anymore and it must be shut down and rerun.
the librarian who explained this to us also said that it works well with either Firefox or Windows Explorer but it is not fully compatible with Chrome.

SABI
http://sabi.bvdep.com/version-201352/cgi/template.dll
Now we will start a series of resources that provide us with financial information, as I'm Spanish, we will start with SABI, this program has financial information such as balances, news of the companies included, their current situation in the stock market, which is usefull for investors and shareholders, data about the employees and much more information. In order to find the company we are looking for, we have several filters to reduce the quantity of results as much as possible so we waste less time searching for a specific company.
This resource also has a free trial and it includes several graphs to ease the presentation of all the financial data that it contains and show us the results faster than looking one by one at each number in the financial statements and see them in a more intuitive way.

This time I bring you Web of Knowledge, an information resource which contains several databases, each one useful for a different kind of researchers, most of my experience with this resource is in the JCR (Journal Citation Reports) database, this gives us bibliometric information such us the impact factor of a journal or its immediacy index.
One of the characteristics that have to be highlighted is the possibility of creating an alert that automatically sends us an email in case that the item that we selected has been cited, but we can't forget to mention that there are several ways to find the journal that we are looking for, such as complete name or the most useful if we don't get to find it, the ISSN code.

ABI/INFORM is an information resource which is really useful to find out thousands of financial and economic articles published worlwide, but it doesn't only have articles, it also has downloadable data, complete journals or doctoral thesis, making it one of the most complete resources to check if you are doing a research or simply trying to get deeper and increase your knowledge in a certain subject.
It must be said that it is really easy to get familiar with the way the program works and searches for the information we want to obtain, moreover we must highlight the fact that the program gives us a free trial to see if the program is what we are looking for.
In conclussion, ABI/INFORM is a reliable information resource that should be always checked in order to plan how your essay or work is going to be.
